Get to Know the Designer: Renae Kotarski

Anástasi Fashion was created by fashion designer Renae Kotarski in 2017. Renae has designed women’s clothing since high school. She holds an Associate of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandising and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design. Renae is committed to designing clothes that are Ethically made with longevity in mind, a joy to wear, and better for the earth. Simple minimalist design that is functional and fabulous.

The modern woman who wears Anástasi is honest, fierce, and socially active. She is an influencer and what she wears reflects that.

1. How would you describe your brand aesthetic?

2. What is your first fashion memory?

Nail polish at 12 and Calvin Klein jeans

3. Where do you look for inspiration?

Modern art, modern architecture and period films.

4. As a designer what has been your biggest challenge to date?

Being stuck inside of my studio.

5. What is your typical creative process?

Music and a quiet place to sketch.

6. What do you think consumers of fashion need to be made more aware of?

Fashion is better when it’s more personal. When the outfit becomes part of you. You make the outfit. The outfit doesn’t make you.

7. What do you love designing the most?

8. How do you select your materials and fabric?

Colour first. And then how it drapes. And of course, how it’s made. It has to be natural and non-synthetic. If it’s going to do what I need it to do for my design.

9. What part does sustainability play in your work?

Well right now it’s made by me therefore it’s ethical.

10. What is your ultimate design goal?

To change the way that women view fast fashion as something that they should be doing into a no can do. That’s not me.

11. What do you think the future will bring to fashion?

Hopefully fashion that is more individualized. Your style that would make you an icon in your own mirror. It fits you. You add to the fashion that you are wearing. As if to say “this is how I wear that and this is how it was personally made to fit me”
